Texas A&M is hiring Kansas State’s Collin Klein to be the offensive coordinator for new head coach Mike Elko. Klein was a Heisman Trophy finalist in 2012, the year that Johnny Manziel won the award for the Aggies. The Colorado native played for the Wildcats from 2009 through 2012, but the possibility of calling plays for Texas A&M in the SEC lured him away from his alma mater. 

Klein joined the coaching ranks in 2014 and has spent all but one season since in Manhattan, Kans. He was the quarterbacks coach at Northern Iowa in 2016. Klein became the offensive coordinator in 2022, helping the Wildcats win a Big 12 title with a unit that ranked top-10 in Kansas State history in 11 different categories, including offensive yards, rushing yards, in yards per game. 

Kansas State averaged 37.8 points per game in 2023. Klein’s two years as offensive coordinator have included multiple quarterbacks. He’s juggled those circumstances well and figured out a way to win with two guys in both seasons as an OC. Texas A&M has started at least two quarterbacks in each of the last three seasons. Kansas State averaged 4.86 yards a rush this season behind a big, bad offensive line.
