Details released about Mike Elko's Texas A&M contract

Texas A&M revealed the contract details of new head coach Mike Elko during his introductory press conference. Elko signed a seven-year contract through Jan. 31, 2030 with an annual base salary of $7 millio. He'll make an extra $1 million for reaching the College Football Playoff. He'd make $1.5 million with a trip to CFP quarterfinals and/or by winning the SEC crown. That bonus grows to $2.5 million with a trip to the CFP championship game and $3.5 million for winning the national championship. That means Elko would make $10.5 million for winnning a national championship. An extra year is added to his contract if he reaches any of the post-season incentives. 

Other incentives include $100,000 for an appearance in SEC championship game and $50,000 for SEC coach of the year. He'd make $100,000 for national coach of the year and $50,000 for a multi-year APR of 960 or above. The salary pool is $11 million and htat includes recruiting operations and strength and conditioning. Texas A&M owes Elko 75 percent of the contract if he's terminated without cause. That grows to 80 percent if he was terminated with less than three years left on the contract.
