A win over Mississippi State and the possibility of an eight-win season by winning out doesn’t appear enough to save Jimbo Fisher’s job, according to multiple reports. The Aggies improved to 6-4 with a blowout win over the Bulldogs on Saturday night, but a decision to part ways from Fisher might’ve been made earlier in the week at Thursday’s Board of Regents meeting. 

Fisher has eight years on a contract with a buyout close to $75 million dollars. He became head coach at Texas A&M on Dec. 1, 2017 with a 10-year, $75 million dollar contract, which was extended prior to the 2021 season. Fisher is 45-25 10 games into his sixth season in charge. The Aggies experienced a 9-1 record in 2020 but are 19-15 since with a losing record against SEC teams over the last three seasons.

The Aggies are bowl eligible with two games left in the regular season. Next up is a home game against Abilene Christian followed by a road trip to LSU. Names that will surface for the Texas A&M opening include Duke head coach Mike Elko and UTSA head man Jeff Traylor. It’ll be one of the most sought after jobs in the country due to the resources and recruiting capabilities.
