The Texas Longhorns remained the only program in the Lone Star State ranked in the top 25 of the College Football Playoff. Texas (8-1) was seventh on Halloween when the first set of rankings was released. They checked in at 7th in the rankings released on Nov. 7. The Longhorns knocked off Kansas State in overtime during Week 10 and remain in control of their destiny for a spot in the Big 12 championship game.
Ohio State remained in the top spot followed by Georgia, Michigan, and Florida State. Washington and Oregon were ranked just outside the top four at five and six, respectively.
TCU in 2022 was the only team from Texas to qualify for the College Football Playoff since its inception in the 2014 season. The College Football Playoff semifinals this year take place Jan. 1 and are at the Rose Bowl (Pasadena, Calif.) and the Sugar Bowl (New Orleans, La.). The national championship game is on Jan. 8 in Houston, TX.
