Sources confirmed to Dave Campbell’s late Tuesday night that Texas A&M quarterback Conner Weigman could miss much more time than the 2-to-4 weeks originally announced after suffering a lower leg injury in the win over Auburn. Weigman was 8 of 14 for 70 yards before the injury occurred late in the second quarter.
The sophomore from Cypress Bridgeland had his first X-Rays come back negative, which led to hope of a short return. Instead, more tests after swelling decreased revealed further damage, a source told DCTF. Weigman had thrown for 979 yards and eight touchdowns to just two interceptions in 2023. He’s thrown 16 touchdowns compared to two interceptions in nine games as a collegiate.
Texas A&M already knew it was without Weigman for at least the next two games. The Aggies face Arkansas in Arlington on Saturday and then host Alabama in Week 6. Max Johnson took over for Weigman and threw for two touchdowns in the second half against Auburn, including one to his brother, Jake. Johnson, a former LSU transfer, possesses plenty of SEC experience.
