Micah Hudson's recruitment was full of speculation.
At one time, Texas fans were convinced that the five-star Lake Belton wideout was headed to Austin because he chose to sit in the Texas section with friends instead of with other OU recruits during the Red River Rivalry game in 2022.
But sources close to his recruitment feel like he might have been a Texas Tech lean long before that moment due to his longstanding relationships with the Tech staff.
Those relationships can be dated back to 2021, when Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire, wide receivers coach Justin Johnson, and director of player personnel Brian Nance were all on staff at Baylor and offered a then under-the-radar Hudson a scholarship.
Nance offered Hudson on June 28, 2021, his first in-state Power Five offer, and the Bears quickly became one of his leaders.
"They check up on me every week and make sure I'm doing good, school is going good, family is doing good," Hudson told Rivals' Nick Harris in 2021.
Flash forward 26 months, and those relationships that Hudson formed at the beginning of the recruiting process are still in place...in Lubbock.
"This staff I'm kind of cool with because they were there from Baylor," Hudson said. "Baylor was one of my first offers. Some of the staff that came from there is at Texas Tech now."
Hudson could have played at Alabama or Ohio State. But, his enduring relationships with the Texas Tech coaching staff, forged back during their time at Baylor, ultimately won him over.
And now he's ready to be a program-changer.
"I want to be able to change a program," Hudson said. "I'm capable of doing that there."
