Albany (3-0) at Hawley (2-1): It’s a battle of state champions in the Big Country as unbeaten 2A-Division II state champion Albany visits 2A-Division I state champion Hawley.
Albany rolled past Seymour, 41-14, last week as Adam Hill ran for 326 yards and four touchdowns to pace the Lions offense that was run-heavy as Albany threw for just 26 yards on the night.
Hawley is working in a lot of new faces and the Bearcats have had their share of struggles early on. They had enough to get past 3A-Division II Eastland last week, 33-20, as QB Keegan Ables threw for 191 yards and two scores and added a touchdown run.
Hawley’s defense and running game just aren’t operating at an elite level like it did a year ago. It’s still good, but not elite in those areas and that definitely evens the playing field against a team like Albany.
I’m taking Albany in what will be a close one. The Lions get out to an early lead, Hawley rallies and Albany hangs on down the stretch.
Stepp’s Pick: Albany by 4
