Midland Legacy (2-0) at Abilene (2-0): It’s an old Little SWC showdown at newly renovated Shotwell Stadium as 6A Midland Legacy comes to the Big Country looking to take down high-flying Abilene High.

Legacy took out Abilene’s district rival Amarillo Tascosa last week, 63-34, in a high-scoring affair. Despite much of the headlines for the Rebels going to Purdue commit QB Marcos Davila, it was the ground game that carried Legacy. Damien Johnson ran for 103 yards and a touchdown, Madden Milloy ran for 100 yards and three scores, and Tommy Johnson ran for 95 yards and two touchdowns.

Abilene won the cross-town showdown over rival Abilene Cooper 26-7 last week as WR Ryland Bradford had 113 yards receiving and a touchdown to lead the Eagles offense, while Abilene’s defense dominated in the win.

The key for Abilene to pull the upset is trying to get sophomore ATH Brayden Henry on track. He’s rotating in at QB and spending time at RB, but he hasn’t quite found his rhythm quite yet.

The key for Midland Legacy is to get off to a good start. If the Rebels get out the gates quick they’ll be fine, but if they start slow they’ll be in for an absolute dog fight.

I lean to a quick start from Clint Hartman’s squad and Legacy gets to a 3-0 mark. Stepp’s Pick: Midland Legacy by 10
