The Iron Skillet might cool off for an extended period following the 2025 season, according to sources. Long-time rivals TCU and SMU are pausing the matchup following the 2025 season. The 2024 game takes place in Fort Worth, while the 2025 game – the last for at least a few years – will be at SMU in Dallas.

The two crosstown rivals began playing against each other in 1915. The programs have played 101 times with the Horned Frogs holding a 52-42-7 advantage over the Mustangs. TCU is on a one-game winning streak over SMU after winning the 2022 contest. Randomly, Horned Frogs head coach Sonny Dykes has won the last three Iron Skillets – twice at SMU and last year at TCU.

There is no timetable on the rivalries return, but both sides seemed sure that the game will come back at some point. Brett McMurphy reported first.
