Texas added extra beef to its defensive line for the 2023 college football season with the addition of Minnesota transfer Trill Carter. The junior is a Georgia native who was a Big Ten honorable mention selection in 2022 after starting 13 games, recording 19 tackles, including 2.5 for loss and 1.5 sacks.

Carter started 24 of the 25 games Minnesota played over the last two seasons. He started 11 of 12 contests in 2021, finishing the year with 21 tackles, including five for loss and one sack. He also broke up two passes. The 6-foot-2, 300-pound Carter is tough to move off a spot and is excellent as a run stuffer.

Texas lost defensive tackles Keondre Coburn and Moro Ojomo from the 2022 squad. Carter joins a group headlined by T’Vondre Sweat and Byron Vaughns. Carter will compete with Alfred Collins and Vernon Broughton for snaps next to that duo.
