Clear Lake head coach Larry McRae informed his team today that he would be stepping down as the Falcons head coach to take the offensive coordinator job at Allen High School. McRae will be reunited with Allen head coach Lee Wiginton who McRae worked for from 2000-2003 when he was on staff at Bosqueville and Wiginton was the head coach.
“The opportunity to work with Coach Wig who is mentor of mine, was too good to pass up this time. Allen is a great situation for my family, my daughter is in eighth grade and my son will be a sophomore this coming year. Coach has asked me a couple of times to come work for him and I’ve turned him down, this time the timing was right and I couldn’t say no,” said Coach McRae.
In seven seasons leading the Falcons McRae has posted a 31-41 overall record, with his best year coming in 2017 when Clear Lake posted an 8-4 mark. He led Clear Lake to the area playoffs twice. “I can’t thank Clear Creek ISD for taking a chance on me to be a head coach. We’ve got great, hard-working kids here at Clear Lake, I feel like the program is in great shape and we’ve left it better than we found it,” said McRae who indicated that the Falcons will bring back nine starters on both sides of the ball.
Prior to his time at Clear Lake, McRae spent ten years on staff at Manvel, two seasons at his alma mater Angleton, along with one season at DeSoto. He began his coaching career in 2000 at Bosqueville after his playing career at Baylor wrapped up.
