Rockwall ISD will bring a familiar face back home as pending board approval Monday night Highland Park ISD Athletic Director and former Rockwall High head coach Rodney Webb will be named head football coach at Rockwall-Heath High School. Webb steps into a challenging situation at Rockwall-Heath as he replaces John Harrell who resigned in late February after several football players were hospitalized after off-season workouts.
Webb’s career record is an impressive 160-78 with much of his success coming across town at Rockwall High where he led the Yellow Jackets program from 2013-2019, he led RHS to a state semifinal appearance in 2019, a regional final appearance in 2015 and a regional semifinal in 2014.
Coach Webb left Rockwall after the 2019 season to take over as head coach at Denton Guyer where in his two seasons leading the Wildcats he posted a 25-5 record, leading Guyer to the state title game in 2021 losing to Austin Westlake. After the 2021 season, Webb stepped away from coaching to take the athletic position at Highland Park ISD, but clearly Coach Webb wasn’t done coaching as this opportunity to head back to Rockwall where he still lives proved to be too good to pass up.
Coach Webb who is a native of Garland got his first shot to be a head coach in 2000 at Ruidoso NM before coming back to Texas in 2003 at Royse City. In his second year he led the Bulldogs to a state semifinal appearance in Class 3A. In 2006 and 2007 his Royse City sqaud’s posted a combined 22-3 record and Webb was one of the hottest names in Texas coaching. He was offered a job at the state’s highest classification in early 2008 when he was named as head coach at Mesquite Horn. Webb in his five seasons at Horn began to establish the Jaguars as a power and in 2010 he led the Jaguars to a trip to the regional finals.
