Lamar announced a partnership with INFLCR to begin the CardiNIL Exchange to allow student-athletes to pursue Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) opportunities. The Cardinals join a quickly growing list of NIL opportunities for athletes, with Sam Houston launching the Kat Fund earlier this year. Other schools are getting the approval needed to begin a collective.
The release stated that business community members could partner directly with student-athletes if Lamar’s NIL guidelines are followed and Lamar’s compliance department approves.
“The CardiNIL Exchange will provide a seamless connection between our student-athletes digital profiles and the many great businesses and non-profit organizations in Southeast Texas,” Lamar Director of Athletics Jeff O’Malley said in the release. “The exchange is set up to allow us to better serve our student-athletes and provide them with direction on taking advantage of their name, image, and likeness. CardiNIL Exchange is another new resource to our athletic programs that will further help in the pursuit of championships and provide support for our student-athletes.”
The INFLCR app will allow the athletes to complete a compliance disclosure. In addition, the app allows athletes to process payments directly without a transaction fee. The app will also house the athletes' tax information.
The release stated that examples of possible business deals include public appearances, autograph signings, social media promotion and endorsement, private lessons, and athletic camps.
