Richardson Berkner offensive coordinator Kendrick Holloway has been named the next head football coach at Richardson High School, Richardson ISD announced on Thursday.

He takes over for Greg Pels, who resigned his post in November after seven seasons. 

"I can’t thank Richardson ISD and Richardson High School enough for giving me a chance to lead my own program," Holloway said. "I’m just ready to go."

Holloway is a native of Dallas and graduate of Dallas Skyline. He played collegiately first at Kilgore College and then at Abilene Christian University before a brief stint in the Cleveland Browns rookie camp.

He first began his coaching career at Abilene Christian where he spent five seasons on staff, working with running backs and then moving to coach wide receivers. He started in the high school ranks as an assistant at Dallas Skyline where he spent six years on staff and was co-offensive coordinator for three seasons from 2018-2020. 

When Berkner hired head coach Trey Bryant, Holloway was hired by Bryant to be the offensive coordinator in the spring of 2021. The Rams made the playoffs in both seasons with Holloway directing the offense. 

“I want thank Berkner High School, the student athletes and Coach Bryant for the opportunity," Holloway said. "When he first called me he had a vision for Berkner and he had a vision was for me to become a head coach and we thought it would be three or four years and here I am a year and a half later and my dream is reality.

"I am excited to get over to the west side and meet the kids and get our program off the ground."
