Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD pending board approval will name Trophy Club Nelson offensive coordinator Richard Leonard as the next head football coach at Carrollton Ranchview

Leonard helped guide one of the state’s most dynamic offensive attacks at Byron Nelson in 2022 as the Bobcats posted an 11-2 mark and averaged over 49 points per game, in 2021 the Bobcats also made a run to the 6A Division II regional semifinals posting a 9-4 overall record.

Coach Leonard is a graduate of Wichita Falls Hirschi High School and played his college ball at Hardin-Simmons University. He began his coaching career as a grad assistant at Hardin-Simmons before starting his high school coaching career as an assistant at Del Rio.

After his time in Del Rio, Leonard went to Pampa and Grand Prairie as an assistant and then joined Joey McGuire’s staff at Cedar Hill where he was part of the staff at CHHS that led the Longhorns to the 2006 Class 5A-Division II state title.

Leonard also spent time at Leander, Hurst Bell and North Forney before landing at Byron Nelson. He takes over for Terry Smith who retired at the end of the season. Ranchview has mostly struggled since the school opened in 2004 with just three winning seasons in school history, only one playoff victory and in the past three years the Wolves have won just two games.
