Prosper ISD on Monday announced the hiring of Waco Midway offensive coordinator Tommy Allison as the first ever head coach at Walnut Grove High School, which opens this August as Prosper ISD’s third high school. 

Allison has a successful track record as a head coach posting a 92-69 overall record in fourteen seasons as a head coach at Cayuga, Jacksboro, Robinson and Hallsville. In three seasons leading Cayuga from 2007-2009 Allison’s teams were a combined 35-8, winning a state title in 2009 and earning a state runner-up finish in 2008. 

Coach Allison spent nine seasons at Robinson High School where he led the Rockets to the playoffs five times, including a regional semifinal appearance in 2014. As an assistant coach at Palestine, in the early 2000s Coach Allison coached future NFL MVP and Hall of Famer Adrian Paterson. He’s spent the last two seasons as the offensive coordinator at Class 6A Waco Midway. 

“We are excited to have Tommy Allison as our first leader at Walnut Grove,” said Prosper ISD Athletic Director Valerie Little. “The experience that he brings in player and program development is exactly what we need for the Wildcats. He has led state title teams and we have high expectations for what he and his staff will build at Walnut Grove. We can’t wait for him to get started on Wednesday meeting his players and their parents.” 

Walnut Grove will play an outlaw schedule in 2023 that is expected to include several small school varsity teams and then will join a UIL district in 2024 where they are expected to start as a Class 5A-Division II program.
