Austin College named Tony Joe White as the Kangaroos head football coach. White spent the last six seasons as head coach at Birmingham-Southern, where he built the Panthers into a contender in the Southern Athletic Association. White led BSC to a program-record 10 wins and an at-large bid in the NCAA Division III playoffs. White departs as the Panthers all-time leader in win percentage and led BSC to a 7-3 record and a second-place finish in the SAA this season.

White returns to the state of Texas, where he was the quarterback at Texas A&M-Commerce from 1991-1993 and graduated from Texas State in 1996. His prior coaching stops include Belhaven (quarterbacks coach and special teams coordinator), Brownsboro High School (head coach), Southeast Missouri State (running backs coach and special teams coordinator), and Southwest Baptist (quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator).

He will inherit a Kangaroos program that Loren Dawson grew from 80 players to around 120 athletes in recent seasons. However, Austin College has not finished with a .500 record since 2019 and struggled to one win over the last two years.
