Arlington – Make it 11.
Aledo quarterback Hauss Hejny threw for two touchdowns and also ran for a pair to lead the Bearcats to a resounding 52-8 viictory over College Station on Saturday to win the 5A Division I UIL State Championship. They've now won 11 state titles.
This one wasn't close.
When Hejny broke off a 30-yard touchdown to open the scoring, College station didn’t have an answer. Then defensive MVP Jake Gillespie forced a fumble from the Cougars which Davhon Keys recovered. Keys then scored two short yard touchdowns on back-to-back drives.
Things got better for Aledo when Hejny threw two touchdowns to Jalen Pope who showed off his speed on a 51-yard reception. Offensive MVP Hejny turned into a track star speeding away on a 58-yard touchdown halfway through the third quarter. Pope then got one more touchdown on a 76-yard connection.
Hejny finished with 175 yards and four total touchdowns along with 146 rushing yards. Pope got the lion’s share of the receiving yards with 228. Andrew Parkhurst and Caden Boukadoum pressured the quarterback both getting a sack.
It wasn’t all bad for College Station as Arrington Maiden would find Paden Cashion twice late in the game to avoid the shutout.
