West Texas A&M announced the hiring of Josh Lynn as the Buffaloes head football coach on Tuesday. Lynn arrives in Canyon following a successful six-year run at Nebraska-Kearney. He led the Lopers to an overall record of 35-25 and an appearance in the second round of the 2021 NCAA Division II playoffs.
Lynn has a history of success throughout his head coaching career. Before his time at UNK, he spent five years as head coach at Eastern New Mexico. Lynn led the Greyhounds to their first winning season since 2004 to a 7-3 record and a share of the Lone Star Conference title in his second year in 2013.
The Eunice, N.M. native finished with an overall record of 27-17 and two appearances in the Heart of Texas Bowl. Lynn registered a winning season in his final four seasons in Portales following a winless 2012 campaign.
The Buffs hope Lynn will bring similar success to a program with many ingredients needed to succeed, including some of the best facilities in Division II.
