LUBBOCK – Behren Morton is set to start at quarterback for Texas Tech (4-3, 2-2) in tonight’s home game against Baylor, a source tells DCTF. It’ll be the third-straight start for the former four-star recruit from Eastland High School.
Morton, a redshirt freshman, started for the first time on Oct. 22 on the road against Oklahoma State. He threw for 379 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception in the loss. The Red Raiders beat West Virginia 48-10 last week in his second career start. Morton threw for 325 yards and two scores in the victory. He’s 1-1 in his short career and is completing over 62 percent of his passes.
Donovan Smith is the backup for Morton in the game against Baylor. Tyler Shough, who began the season as the starting quarterback for the second consecutive year, is working his way back from a collarbone injury. Texas Tech has started three different quarterbacks in Joey McGuire’s first season in charge.
