Southland Conference

• Congratulations to Texas A&M-Commerce coach David Bailiff on his 100th career victory in the Lions 40-15 thrashing of McNeese. Bailiff currently sits third in A&M-Commerce program history in winning percentage with a minimum of 30 games at 71 percent. Ahead of Bailiff are M.A. Smith at 90.9 percent (30-2-1) and Colby Carthel at 76.6 percent (59-18). 

• Interestingly, the man after whom the Lions home field is named, Earnest Hawkins, left Commerce with a winning percentage of 57.4, which is currently seventh in program history. 

Southwestern Athletic Conference

• Both Texas teams in the SWAC were idle last week, but that didn’t keep Prairie View A&M from earning headlines following a scuffle prior to their game against Southern. While Jaguars coach Eric Dooley refused to talk about the incident, PVAMU coach Bubba McDowell expressed his frustration with the Southern coaching staff, who he felt didn’t do enough to end the incident. 

• “As I got down there, I didn’t see coaches from their side — I saw them standing there but was not trying to de-escalate the situation down there. And I know (Southern University) Coach (Eric) Dooley isn’t about that.  I would love to  — again —  coming downstairs, being able to see as many coaches in there as possible to minimize players getting hurt or throwing blows or something like that,” McDowell said, according to HBCU Gameday.

• The SWAC announced a total of 21 athletes (11 from Southern and 10 from Prairie View) are suspended for one game for their involvement in the incident. Southern received a $7,500 fine, while PVAMU was assessed a $10,000 fine. The Panthers faced additional fines due to failure to comply with the “SWAC’S Gameday Management Decorum.”

Western Athletic Conference

• Sam Houston has an opponent for a game at NRG Stadium in Houston next year after signing a home-and-home series with Air Force. The Bearkats will be the home team at NRG Stadium in 2023 and will travel to Falcon Stadium in 2025.

• Bearkats kicker Seth Morgan earned FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week honors after becoming the first player in program history to make three field goals from 40 or more yards in a game.

• Stephen F. Austin running back Miles Reed became the first Lumberjack to gain over 100-yards rushing in a game this season with a 137-yard performance against Tarleton.

Lone Star Conference

• New LSC affiliate member Simon Fraser announced it is moving two of its 2022 home games back to Burnaby, British Columbia. The Red Leafs had moved their home games to Blaine, Wash., due to CoVID restrictions at the Canadian border. With Canada recently lifting the restrictions, SFU will host Western New Mexico and West Texas A&M at Terry Fox Field, while its game against Angelo State will remain in Blaine.

• According to sources, visiting teams will not be required to have passports for each member of the traveling party, but many logistical issues will need to be ironed out by WNMU and WT athletic departments in a short amount of time.

American Southwest Conference

• Kyle King continues to re-write the Mary Hardin-Baylor record books. The senior from Milano set the program record for most completions in a game, finishing with 28 completions on 39 attempts for 337 yards and four touchdowns against Texas Lutheran.

• Cru sophomore Matthew Jackson’s 95-yard punt return for a touchdown against TLU set an ASC and program record for the longest punt return.

Sooner Athletic Conference

• Texas Wesleyan’s kept its hopes alive for a SAC title with a convincing 53-28 win over No. 20 Langston. However, the Rams will need the Lions to upset Ottawa (Ariz.) this week due to the Spirit owning the tiebreaker over the Rams thanks to their win over TxWes earlier this season.

Southwestern Junior College Football Conference

• Trinity Valley remains atop the SWJCFC standings following a 29-23 road win over Navarro. The Cardinals, New Mexico Military Institute, and Tyler are in the driver's seat for a berth in the conference semifinals, while Blinn and Cisco have been eliminated from playoff contention.
