Week 6 is here as the FBS programs in Texas reaching the halfway mark of the season. Crazy, I know. Like a roller coaster at an amusement park, the season rarely seems as long as the wait suggests. Craven's Corner is on a heater against the spread. We went 8-3 in Week 5 to bring our 2022 season mark to 30-16-1. That means if you've bet $100 dollars on each of the wagers through four weeks, you'd be up $1,300 dollars. Not that this is real betting advice because (gestures at the state governent that swears individual freedom is important until it cuts against the grain of their values). 

Week 6 is a loaded slate with TCU heading to Kansas to face the undefeated Jayhawks with ESPN Gameday in town. Texas faces Oklahoma in the yearly Red River Rivalry. Texas A&M and Jimbo Fisher travel to Alabama to face the music against the Crimson Tide. And Texas Tech hopes to remain in Big 12 contention in a contest against Oklahoma State in what could become one of the better rivalries in the new Big 12.

GAMES OF THE WEEK 

TCU at Kansas 
Viewing info: Saturday at 11 a.m. on FS1 
Gambling odds: TCU -7; O/U 67.5 
ESPN College Gameday lands in Lawrence for the TCU vs. Kansas game on the same weekend that Texas A&M visits Alabama and Texas plays Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl. Just as we all expected. The two combatants enter the contest at a combined 9-0, and not thanks to a cupcake schedule. Kansas knocked off West Virginia, Houston, and Iowa State. TCU holds wins over SMU and Oklahoma. The quarterback battle figures to decide the game. Max Duggan took over for the injured Chandler Morris during Week 1, and the experienced signal-caller hasn’t looked back for the Horned Frogs. He’s completing a career-high 74 percent of his passes. He’s thrown for eight touchdowns and zero interceptions through three starts. Kansas’ Jalon Daniels has a similar stat line through five games.

Texas vs. Oklahoma 
Viewing info: Saturday at 11 a.m. on ABC
Gambling odds: Texas -7; O/U 65.5
The Red River Rivalry won’t feature a ranked team for the first time since 1998. It is only the second time both teams enter the Cotton Bowl unranked in the last 50 years. Texas won that meeting in 1998, by the way, and the Longhorns are heavy favorites to break a four-game losing streak against the Sooners. Texas has only won one of the last seven meetings. Both teams enter the game with quarterback concerns. Texas’ Quinn Ewers hasn’t played since the first half against Alabama, though, Hudson Card improves each week in relief. Oklahoma’s Dillon Gabriel was knocked out of the TCU loss in Week 5.

UTSA vs. Western Kentucky 
Viewing info: Saturday at 5 p.m.  
Gambling odds: UTSA -6.5; O/U 72.5 
A rematch of a thrilling C-USA title game from 2021 takes place in the Alamodome on Saturday with Western Kentucky back in town. UTSA won both games against the Hilltoppers in 2021, including the C-USA title game in San Antonio last December. The winner of this game is also the favorite to claim the 2022 C-USA title, even if a rematch is in the cards down the line. UTSA’s offense is running on all cylinders with quarterback Frank Harris breaking school records for passing and total yards in consecutive games. The Roadrunners have three wide receivers on pace to record over 1,000 yards receiving on the season. The lone blemish for Western Kentucky was a seven-point loss to Troy in Week 5.

QUICK BETS 

Texas A&M at Alabama 
Viewing info: Saturday at 7 p.m. on CBS 
Gambling odds: Alabama -24; O/U 51.5 
Pain. That is what awaits the Aggies on their trip to face Darth Vader and his Alabama Crimson Tide. Nick Saban and Jimbo Fisher cut wrestling promos on each other throughout the summer, and a wounded Texas A&M offense means this might be a blowout. How does Texas A&M score enough points to keep this one entertaining? If you know, please go tell Jimbo because we’re not sure he does.

Texas Tech at Oklahoma State 
Viewing info: Saturday at 2:30 p.m. on FS1 
Gambling odds: Texas Tech +9; O/U 70
Texas Tech faces another conference title contender on the road with a trip to Stillwater to take on an Oklahoma State program fresh off a road win over Baylor. Texas Tech is 0-2 on the road with the Red Raiders committing four turnovers in both of those losses. They’ve only turned the ball over a combined four times in three home wins. Donovan Smith must play a clean game and avoid turnovers if Texas Tech is to pull an upset. A fast start would be advantageous for a Texas Tech squad that was quickly down 13-0 in last week’s loss to Kansas State. 
Craven’s Bet: Texas Tech +9 

Houston at Memphis
Viewing info: Friday at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN2 
Gambling odds: Memphis +3; O/U 57.5 
No one predicted that Memphis would enter this game as a favorite before the start of the season, but that is how far Houston has fallen since Week 1. The Cougars are 2-3 and coming off a home loss to Tulane in overtime despite the Green Wave playing their third-string quarterback for every snap after the opening drive. Houston can’t create big plays in the air or on the ground, and the defense doesn’t possess the same bite as 2021. 
Craven’s Bet: Memphis +3

Texas State vs. App State 
Viewing info: Saturday at 6 p.m. on ESPN+
Gambling odds: Texas State +19; O/U 55.5 
The Sun Belt is a challenging road and Texas State knows that as well as any team in the country. The conference slate started with a trip to James Madison, and the punishment for losing that game is a home tilt against App State. The James Madison team that beat the Bobcats by 27 points last week only beat App State by four the week before. This is the same App State team that knocked off Texas A&M in Kyle Field during Week 2.

UTEP at La Tech 
Viewing info: Saturday at 6 p.m. 
Gambling odds: UTEP +3; O/U 52.5 
The Miners avoided a catastrophe in 2022 by knocking off Boise State and Charlotte in consecutive weeks to bring their record to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in C-USA play heading into Week 6. Beating a 1-4 La Tech on the road might be the key to reaching a bowl game for the second straight year for only the second time this century. The only win for La Tech in 2022 was over FCS program SFA.
