Baylor running back Josh Fleeks entered the transfer portal on Tuesday, according to 247Sports. The Dallas Morning News reported that a pair of SMU players are doing the same yesterday in a story that went viral. Years of eligibility are more valuable than gold. A player only gets four years to play college football. The COVID year made that five for most of the current players, but the adage holds true. Time is our most precious commodity and more players in college football will enter the transfer portal in the middle of the season to preserve a redshirt and retain that year of eligibility.
Fleeks, a senior from Cedar Hill, won't lose his redshirt opportunity from 2022 because he hasn't played in more than four games. The one-time wide receiver could never find a role as a Bear. He moved positions and still couldn't crack the two-deep. He recorded three rushes for 27 yards and one catch for 45 in the win over Texas State. Fleeks caught one pass for four yards in Week 4 against Iowa State in what proved to be his last game in Waco.
