Texas defensive back Jahdae Barron was named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in the 41-20 win against UTSA, improving the Longhorns to 2-1 on the season. A tough defensive performance by the Longhorns versus the no. 2-ranked passing attack in the nation was highlighted by Barron's 44-yard interception return for a touchdown late in the third quarter.

Barron’s interception was the first in his career. He also recorded three solo tackles, three assisted tackles, and a pass breakup. The interception came on a high, shallow screen pass from Frank Harris intended for senior wide receiver Zakhari Franklin. That touchdown sparked 17-0 run by Texas, as the rushing attack of junior Bijan Robinson and senior Roschon Johnson took over. The Longhorns' defense held Harris and the UTSA offense to a season-low 269 yards passing and scoreless in the fourth quarter.

Texas will travel to Lubbock to play the Texas Tech Red Raiders this weekend as they start conference play. UTSA will return home to San Antonio when they host Texas Southern in their “Orange Out” game. Both teams are set to kick off at 2:30 pm. on Sept. 24.
