SMU and Oklahoma announced a home-and-home series of two contests with the first taking place on Sept. 9, 2023 in Norman and the second on Sept. 11, 2027 at Ford Stadium in Dallas.

Oklahoma was forced to find new opponents after the SEC announced that the Sooners' planned series against Georgia and Tennessee were cancelled amid a move to the conference in 2024 or 2025. SMU has two out-of-conference games now scheduled for 2023 with a trip to Fort Worth to take on rival TCU set for Sept. 23 of next season. The Mustangs are 2-0 ahead of a Week 3 trip to Maryland. SMU hosts TCU and former head coach Sonny Dykes on Sept. 24.
