An injury suffered by starting Texas Tech quarterback Tyler Shough in the first half of a blowout win over Murray State will cost the senior at least two weeks, a source at Texas Tech told Dave Campbell's Texas Football. The Red Raiders host Houston on Saturday and travel to N.C. State in Week 3. Both teams are ranked.

Texas Tech expects to know if it is a collarbone injury or an AC joint issue by the end of tomorrow. A collarbone injury would mean a significant amount more recovery time. Shough missed the final nine games of the 2021 season due to a broken collarbone.

Shough was 6 of 10 for 154 yards and a touchdown prior to his injury in the 63-10 win over Murray State in head coach Joey McGuire’s head coaching debut. Donovan Smith came on in relief and finished 14 of 16 for 221 yards and four touchdown passes. He wasn’t sacked and he didn’t throw an interception. Behren Morton, who will serve as the primary backup without Shough, was 7 of 10 for 97 yards and a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
