2021 Lone Star Conference Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, Miklo Smalls, is transferring to Texas A&M-Kingsville and will compete for the Javelinas starting quarterback job, according to Javelinas head coach Mike Salinas.
"We felt good about our quarterback room at the end of spring ball and let our guys know that if we had somebody who could potentially make us better, we'd recruit them. We have a great room and a great group of guys, and they know it's about competition."
Smalls had a breakout season in 2019, leading Texas A&M-Commerce to the Super Regional Four finals. Smalls threw for 3,005 yards and 23 touchdowns while leading the Lions' rushing attack with 488 yards and three touchdowns.
The Plano East High School product was injured in spring practice before the 2021 season and returned during the middle of the fall season before throwing for 837 yards and five touchdowns in five games for the Lions.
