Texas added its second five-star quarterback of the 2022 offseason with the commitment of Isidore Newman’s Arch Manning, the nephew of Peyton and Eli. Manning is the top-ranked player in the 2022 cycle and is graded as a perfect 1.000 prospect in the 2023 recruiting class. Only three quarterbacks have received the grade since the inception of the 247Sports composite rankings – Vince Young, Quinn Ewers, and Manning. All three will wear burnt orange if Manning sticks with his pledge.
Texas beat out Alabama and Georgia for Manning’s pledge. Landing Ewers and Manning prove that young talent, at least on offense, trust Steve Sarkisian to turnaround the Longhorns despite a 5-7 record. The amount of talent Sark added to the Longhorns after the 5-7 finish in year one is encouraging news for Longhorn fans. Manning plays in Louisiana and threw for more 1,900 yards in each of his first three seasons on varsity. He has 81 career touchdown passes compared to 17 interceptions. The competition level he’s facing is like TAPPS in Texas.
Texas’ 2023 recruiting class now ranks 19th in the nation after the addition of Manning. No team with as many (8) or fewer commitments as Texas ranks ahead of the Longhorns. The addition of a name brand like Manning should help Texas close out the recruiting cycle with a top-five class. Manning will arrive in 2023 with Ewers possessing one more year of eligibility. The ideal scenario for Sark is for Ewers to start in 2023 and Manning to take over in 2024 and 2025.
