For the second straight year, Allen ISD wasted very little time in their search for a head coach. On Monday, the district announced Midlothian Heritage's Lee Wiginton as the next head football coach for the Eagles.

Wiginton, a native of Lampasas and the son of a coach, is well-respected around the state, as evidenced by his election as president of the Texas High School Coaches Association in July. He will serve as the organization’s president in the 2022-2023 school year. In 2020, he was named the THSCA's Grant Teaff Beyond the Game Award winner.

A 21-year head coaching veteran, Wiginton's career featured stops at Bosqueville, Comfort and Mexia before arriving in Midlothian ISD to take over at Midlothian High in 2010. After five seasons leading the Panthers, Wiginton made an unusual move in 2015, going across town to open up MISD’s second high school, Midothian Heritage, where he's had good success. In six seasons at the helm at Heritage, Wiginton has a record of 60-17, with a 4A Division I regional final appearance in 2019 and back-to-back regional semifinal appearances in 2017 and 2018, suffering hearbreakers to Kennedale and Carthage, respectively. Wiginton has a career record of 157-89.

Wiginton began his coaching career in 1993 as a junior high coach in San Angelo ISD. In his first season as a head coach at Bosqueville in 2000, he led the Bulldogs to their first ever 11-man playoff appearance.

Wiginton has ties to Allen ISD superintendent Robin Bullock — prior to coming to Allen in 2013, Bullock spent thirteen seasons in Midlothian ISD administration and was on staff in 2010 when MISD hired Wiginton away from Mexia.
