Multiple sources have confirmed to Dave Campbell’s Texas Football that Salado ISD will officially name Hays Consolidated athletic director Tom Westerberg as the next head football coach at Salado High School on Friday.

Westerberg, a Salado alum, is best known around the state for his impressive run at Allen, where he led the Eagles to four state titles in seven seasons from 2008-2014, including three in a row from 2012-2014.

Coach Westerberg left Allen in 2016 and went to Barbers Hill where he coached from 2016-2020, before this past offseason accepting the athletic director position at Hays Consolidated ISD, a three high school district just south of Austin.

In 17 seasons as a head coach, Westerberg has a record of 186-34 and his teams have posted double digit wins in 11 of 17 seasons. He is the second straight Salado alum to take the position of head football coach as Westerberg replaces Alan Haire, who recently departed to start up the program at Killeen Chaparral.

One interesting thing to watch is the likely shift in offensive philosophy as Salado moves away from the Slot-T offense and towards the spread offense that Coach Westerberg has run at both Allen and Barbers Hill.
