La Porte ISD named Pasadena Dobie head coach Kevin Berneathy as its next head football coach on Thursday.

Bearneathy will be the Bulldogs third head coach in the last three years, but he has familiarity with the program after spending a couple of seasons there as an assistant under Jeff LaReau.

Prior to landing the Dobie job before the 2018 season, Berneathy was the offensive coordinator at Angleton where his Wing-T offense put up big numbers in leading AHS to a 13-1 mark in 2017. The new head Bulldog also spent time as an assistant at Dickinson and La Marque

In four seasons at Pasadena Dobie, Berneathy’s teams rolled up an impressive 33-10 record, including a district championship in 2020. He takes over a struggling La Porte program that is seeking stability and hasn’t had much success since dropping down to Class 5A-Division I back in 2020.
