The South Oak Cliff defensive backfield came out in the first half of a 42-21 win over Lovejoy in dominating fashion to hold the Leopards scoreless and set the tone for the game.
A big part of the defensive success was 2023 CB/S Jayvon Thomas (5'11, 180).
"Our goal was to shut them down early, get up, and just stay consistent," Thomas said. "I feel like coming back out of halftime, they really did not have anything to go back to, like their gameplan was done. After that, we just had to finish it."
The SOC defensive secondary is one of the most talented in the state. It features top-tier recruits like 2023 CB Malik Muhammad, 2022 S Kyron Chambers, and 2023 CB Abdul Muhammad.
Thomas loves being a part of the unit.
"It is an amazing feeling," Thomas explained. "Next year, we will be back. Just growing and bonding with them is an amazing feeling."
Thomas is rated as a DCTF four-star prospect and already has 19 scholarship offers. Schools like TCU, SMU, Oregon and others were in attendance to scout him at the Frisco's Ford Center on Saturday.
"It is unbelievable to (have the coaches on the field), because it only happens every now and then," Thomas said. "You have got to be playing good for stuff like that to happen."
"The opportunity is there, and it is just mine for the taking."
Thomas has offers from schools like Baylor, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, USC, Oregon, Kansas, Texas, Notre Dame, SMU, Arkansas, TCU, Arizona, Utah, Texas Tech, Louisville and Wisconsin.
But he is still hungry for more.
"LSU, Clemson, Ohio State," Thomas said when asked about offers he is hungry for. "I'm just a playmaker."
