It’s the game of the week in the Alamo City as Smithson Valley visits state-ranked and unbeaten Cibolo Steele with the 27-6A title on the line.

Smithson Valley bounced back nicely from their upset loss top Converse Judson two weeks ago as the Rangers defense dominated in a 21-3 win over a much improved San Antonio East Central squad. The Smithson Valley defense held ECHS to just 194 yards of offense on the night, while QB Derek Mata ran for a score and threw for a touchdown.

Steele trailed early against a resurgent Judson squad but battled back for a 35-30 win. RB Jaydon Bailey led the way for the Knights with 174 yards on the ground and three touchdowns.

Steele’s speed and big play ability will be a challenge for Smithson Valley, but unless the Knights can find a way to throw the ball consistently this may be one of those bad matchup games. Smithson Valley’s defense and their ability to stop the run proves to be the difference in this showdown.

Stepp’s Pick: Smithson Valley by 3
