Texarkana Liberty-Eylau 2023 S/LB Tracy Revels (6’1, 175) is a name that’s been on our radar for a little over a year now but recently has started to see momentum pick up in his recruitment. Including an offer at the start of September.
Arkansas State chose to be the first to pull the trigger to offer the northeast Texas 2023 product after attending a camp this offseason. Since then, the staff in Jonesboro has been in consistent contact with Revels building a relationship with him. One staff member that Revels made sure to highlight was linebackers coach Jon Shalala.
“That’s my guy. We’re locked in. I love the A-State program. They want me to play outside linebacker there,” Revels said.
Other schools showing interest in the LE product include Akron, Houston and UTSA. Regarding UTSA, he mentioned Kurt Traylor as a point of contact. It’s well documented that the Traylor family has deep ties to East Texas. Under Jeff Traylor’s regime, the Roadrunners have done a good job of offering and keeping tabs on the eastern portion of the state. According to a source closely connected to his recruitment, Revels is scheduled to visit UTSA in the coming weeks.
Even Texas is putting early feelers out there in connection to the 2023 prospect’s recruitment by inviting him to this past weekend’s game in Austin as the Longhorns hosted Texas Tech. Revels was one of many prospects to visit Austin on Saturday. It was a bit of a who’s who in the recruit section of DKR.
Concerning Revels and his personal experience, he really enjoyed his time on The Forty Acres. “The game man was exciting, fun, loved the fans, the game plan, and just great all the way around,” he said post-game in reaction to his visit.
As things stand, Revels only holds the lone offer from Arkansas State. However, typically where there is smoke, there is fire. If the recent buzz surrounding Revels is any indication, it appears the pistons on the train are finally starting to move in the right direction.
Scouting Report:
Revels first caught our eyes a year ago as a sophomore who played with a physical edge on the backside of the Leopard defense. By year’s end he was selected First-Team All-District 8-4A Division II. Fast forward to 2021 and he’s making a similar impact. He’s more than capable of coming downhill to make tackles near the line of scrimmage. Very reliable in one-on-one situations in open grass. On Friday night against Waxahachie Life, he showed good instincts and was able to make several tackles.
Revels showcases a lengthy frame that will eventually need to add mass. With that said, he runs the field well as he is currently built, and as stated previously, he packs a physical punch. Technically speaking, he’ll need to continue to improve as well. That should happen with continued coaching and reps. It’ll be interesting to see how he evolves on the field and where schools feel like he best fits within their scheme.
