Bragging rights in Corpus Christi ISD are on the line as the city’s best 4A program takes on the city’s top 5A program in a CCISD showcase.

Class 4A Miller had no trouble beating Class 5A Corpus Christi Ray last week, blowing the Texans out 48-0. WR Lonnie Adkism was outstanding hauling in seven passes for 158 yards and three touchdowns, while QB Jaedyn Brown was sensational in his first varsity start throwing for 331 yards and four touchdowns as the Bucs rolled up 598 yards of offense.

Even more encouraging for Miller was the performance of their defense which pitched a shutout.

It wasn’t quite as encouraging an effort for Veterans Memorial who had to scratch and claw to knock off Miller’s district rival Alice 22-20 last week. QB Elijah Durrette in his first varsity start threw for 147 yards and two touchdowns, but mistakes and a tough Alice squad haunted the Eagles all night.

Miller brings back a ton of experience across the board and despite the youth at QB, the Bucs have the makings of a salty team once again and in this early season showdown they get the edge over a young Vets squad.

Stepp’s Pick: Corpus Christi Miller by 3
