Denton bragging rights are on the line at CH Collins as Guyer, one of just two teams who pushed eventual 5A-Division I state champion Ryan in 2020, gets another shot to end the Raiders winning streak.
Guyer started out in impressive fashion last week blitzing a good Hebron squad to the tune of 46-17. Guyer’s defense held Hebron to just 12-yards of offense in the first half and forced four Hawks turnovers as GHS raced out to a 28-0 lead. QB Jackson Arnold threw for 167 yards and a touchdown and ran for 58 yards and a score to lead a balanced Guyer attack.
Rumors of Denton Ryan’s demise after a stellar senior class graduated are not true as the Raiders used a second quarter blitz to dominate Longview 40-7 to win the inaugural Jerry Jones Classic at the Ford Center. Junior RB Kalib Hicks ran for 139 yards and three touchdowns, and Anthony Hill, Jr. made big impacts on both sides of the ball to lead a balanced Ryan attack. Ryan feasted on Longview mistakes all afternoon making impact plays in all three phases of the game.
This was a close game last year and should be close this year, the SLIGHT edge goes to Guyer, I think this Wildcats team is a little better than last year’s team that went to the 6A semifinals and I think Ryan may not be quite as dominant as last year. Regardless, this will be must-see television Friday night.
