Off the field, defensive tackle Tre Emory serves up dishes of food, most notably chicken.
He even shared some with his head football coach at Mount Pleasant High School, Ritchie Pinckard.
“I cannot remember what the dish is, but he brought me a little bit of it,” Pinckard said. “It’s pretty good. It was some kind of chicken marsala.”
Emory has a passion for cooking and was enrolled in a culinary class at Mount Pleasant High School to further his skillset in the kitchen.
On the field, Emory currently serves up offensive lineman, especially those in District 9-5A-II.
Soon, the 3-star recruit and 53rd ranked Class of 2022 player in Dave Campbell’s Texas Football’s Hot 100 will be looking to do the same to college lineman. After a final six of Arizona, Arkansas, Baylor, Oklahoma State, SMU and TCU, Emory has committed to Baylor.
“Baylor was always a school I wanted to attend growing up,” Emory said. “Me and coach [Dennis] Johnson’s and coach [Dave] Aranda’s relationship is what really made the decision easy for me.
“I wouldn’t say it was a certain thing they offered me that others didn’t, but what separated them is I felt like I was needed and wanted there because they showed me love throughout the whole recruitment process.”
Emory’s first offer came from UTSA during his sophomore year. Eight months later, he was offered by Tennessee, which is where Emory believes his recruiting began to take off. Before committing to Baylor on June 18, Emory racked up 17 Division I offers.
Pinckard took the head coaching job at Mount Pleasant in the spring of 2018 when Emory was in eighth grade. In the midst of watching his players workout during the first couple weeks of evaluation, Pinckard quickly realized Emory’s potential as a football player.
“I kind of had an idea at a young age, that kid had a shot,” Pinckard said.
Listed at 6’2, 270 pounds, Emory possesses a good frame, but moves quickly for a lineman. When asked about Emory’s play style, Pinckard answered candidly.
“For most of the young parts of his career, his play style was really just, he was gonna bully everybody,” Pinckard said. “[Later in his career] he realized that his attributes are that he's got a tremendous first step and tremendous lean and understands what leverage is.”
“I’m a run stopper…I’m a versatile player,” Emory added.
The 2020 District 9-5A-II Defensive Player of the Year will join a Baylor defense that allowed over 180 rushing yards per game in 2020, ranking them only ahead of Kansas and Texas Tech in the Big 12. While his physical attributes will favor the Bears defensive line, Emory looks to bring a distinct mindset to Waco.
“I see myself bringing back the intensity to the D-line and making sure the world notices Baylor for their front seven,” he said.
During his time with the Tigers, Emory has made Mount Pleasant High School proud. Beginning in 2022, he looks to do the same with the Bears.
“The most exciting thing that I look forward to while I play at Baylor is making my city proud,” Emory said.
