BRYAN, TX – For more than 60 years, Dave Campbell’s Texas Football has been “the bible” to millions of football fans across the Lone Star State. The annual summer edition of the magazine remains a rite of passage for all Texans, previewing every football team in the state — from the rabid world of Texas high school football, through the college ranks, and into the Dallas Cowboys and the Houston Texans.
This summer, Suddenlink partnered with Dave Campbell’s Texas Football to provide 10 schools custom cover wrapped copies of the annual summer edition magazine, giving each football program the opportunity to feature their 2021 team and excitement for the upcoming Texas high school football season. The Bryan Vikings were featured as one of the 10 schools.
“Ask any football player, coach or fan in Texas, seeing your face on the cover or being mentioned in “the bible of Texas Football” is a big deal,” Greg Tepper, Texas Football managing editor, said. “For Suddenlink to step up to the plate and provide these commemorative magazines to these kids and communities is a memory and keepsake they will cherish for a lifetime.”
The Bryan Vikings were presented with their custom copies of the magazine at a special presentation after their team’s summer practice on Wednesday.
“Everyone still reads the magazine, but for some of us older guys that have been reading it since 1960 and I’ve got nearly every copy in my house up in the library, it’s really exciting,” Ross Rogers, head football coach of the Bryan Vikings, said.
Dave Campbell’s Texas Football and Suddenlink have been partners for three years, collaborating together for the Community Connection School of the Week Program – celebrating Texas high school communities and the influential people who make Friday nights so special.
“Friday night football games present communities a time to connect with one another while supporting the talented and hardworking students who make these events come to life, from the athletes on the field to the band members in the stands. At Suddenlink, we put an emphasis on connectivity and community, because we know how important it is that our customers have access to a reliable network to stay connected to the people, entertainment and information they want, inside and outside the home. We are proud to work with Dave Campbell’s Texas Football to highlight the Bryan Vikings and wish them the best in the upcoming season,” Michael Petty, Regional Vice President of Local Market Engagement at Suddenlink, said.

More about the 2021 Summer Edition of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine:
The 2021 summer edition and 62nd annual “bible of Texas football” features a quartet of stars from Texas A&M’s ferocious defense: linebacker Micheal Clemons, defensive end DeMarvin Leal, cornerback Myles Jones and safety Demani Richardson. The headline lays out the stars, and the stakes: “THE NEW CREW: A&M’s defense leads the Aggies’ national title charge.” The four Aggies are the first defensive players to grace the cover of the magazine since TCU’s Tommy Blake in 2007, and the first defense-only cover since Aggie legend Dat Nguyen in 1998.
For the sixth straight year, the magazine features a second “gatefold” cover, and this year’s coverboy is no stranger to the big stage: Carthage coach Scott Surratt, posing with his jaw- dropping eight state championship rings. With a wry smile and fists full of jewelry, Surratt is truly “the lord of the rings.”
