The 2021 NFL Draft starts on Thursday night and multiple athletes who played high school or college football in Texas are expected to be drafted.

A handful of Texas college prospects will compete for selection in the first round, including TCU's Trevon Moehrig and Texas' Joseph Ossai. However, some of the best Texas high school prospects come from out of the state, including potential top draft pick Jaylen Waddle from Alabama. 

A trio of quarterbacks who played college ball in Texas – SMU's Shane Buechele, Texas A&M's Kellen Mond and Texas' Sam Ehlinger – will also fight for attention. All-American receiver Jaelon Darden from North Texas is hoping to end a draft drought from the program that lasts nearly two decades. 

The state of Texas dominated every other state in the 2020 NFL Draft, producing 33 total draft picks. California, Florida and Georgia produced 23, 22 and 21 picks respectively, with Louisiana rounding out the top five with 12 products. 

The in-state Dallas Cowboys will also be picking with the No. 10 pick in the first round.

Texas Draft Picks

Round 1, Pick 6: WR Jaylen Waddle, Alabama (Bellaire Episcopal)

• Waddle owns three of the top five scoring plays in Alabama history and posted 557 yards and four TDs in just four games before suffering a season-ending injury. Waddle is heading to the Miami Dolphins. 

Round 1, Pick 13: OL Rashawn Slater, Northwestern (Fort Bend Clements)

• Slater earned All-Big Ten honors two years in a row before opting out of the limited 2020 season. He was rated the highest graded Big Ten tackle returning by Pro Football Focus. Slater was drafted by the Los Angeles Chargers. 

Round 1, Pick 28: DE Payton Turner, Houston (Houston Westside)

• Turner earned All-Texas College First Team honors after posting 10.5 tackles for loss and five sacks in just five games with the Cougars. The Westside product teams up with UTSA star Marcus Davenport on the New Orleans Saints. 

Round 2, Pick 41: DT Levi Onwuzurike, Washington (Allen)

• The Washington Huskies product earned Phil Steele All-America and consensus All-Pac-12 honors after a strong 2019 season. He opted out of the 2020 season. Onwuzurike was drafted by the Detroit Lions. 

Round 2, Pick 43: DB Trevon Moehrig, TCU (Smithson Valley)

• Moehrig was picked in the second round after winning the Thorpe Award as the nation's top defensive back in his final season at TCU. Moehrig was drafted by the Las Vegas Raiders. 

Round 2, Pick 45: OT Walker Little, Stanford (Bellaire Episcopal)

• Little earned All-Pac 12 honors as both a freshman and a sophomore before dealing with injuries in 2019. He opted out of the 2020 season after receiving preseason All-America nods to focus on the draft. Little was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars. 

Round 2, Pick 51: OT Samuel Cosmi, Texas (Humble Atascocita)

• Cosmi developed from an unheralded recruit to one of the nation's best offensive linemen during a standout four-year career on the 40 Acres. He earned second-team All-America honors from CBS Sports. Cosmi was drafted by the Washington Football Team.

Round 2, Pick 54: DE Dayo Odeyingbo, Vanderbilt (Carrollton Ranchview)

• Odeyingbo posted 20 tackles for loss in 20 games between his junior and senior seasons before suffering an Achilles injury that kept him out of the draft process. Adeyingbo was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts. 

Round 2, Pick 58: LB Nick Bolton, Missouri (Frisco Lone Star)

• Bolton transformed into an All-American linebacker in his final SEC season, accumulating 95 tackles for 7.5 TFLs in a 10-game campaign. He previously earned District MVP twice at Frisco Lone Star. Bolton was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs, so he will stay in Missouri. 

Round 2, Pick 64: QB Kyle Trask, Florida (Manvel)

• Trask went from being a backup at Manvel to becoming a Heisman finalist during a storied career at Florida. He threw for 4,283 yards and 43 touchdowns for the Gators in 2020. Trask was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. 

Round 3, Pick 66: QB Kellen Mond, Texas A&M

• Mond, a San Antonio native, became the all-time leader in virtually every passing statistic at Texas A&M during his four-year career as a starting quarterback. Mond was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings. 

Round 3, Pick 69: EDGE Joseph Ossai, Texas (Conroe Oak Ridge)

• Ossai came into college as a supreme physical talent without a clear role. Finally as a junior, he found it, transforming into one of the best edge rushers in America and an All-American. Ossai was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals. 

Round 3, Pick 73: DT Milton Williams, Louisiana Tech (Crowley)

• Williams earned All-Conference USA first team honors and emerged as a top NFL Draft pick after posted 45 tackles and 10 TFLs during a breakout junior season. Williams was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles. 

Round 3, Pick 76: DB Paulson Adebo, Stanford (Mansfield)

• Adebo twice earned All-Pac 12 honors after posting 97 tackles and 38 passes defended in 2018 and 2019. He earned All-State honorable mention by both the TSWA and Associated Press in high school. Adebo was drafted by the New Orleans Saints. 

Round 3, Pick 104: DB Brandon Stephens, SMU (Plano)

• Stephens transferred to SMU from UCLA in 2019 as a running back. When an opening emerged, he decided to try his hand at cornerback – even though he had never played the position. Now, Stephens presents a high-upside selection with his 6-foot, 206-pound frame. Stephens was selected by the Baltimore Ravens. 

Round 3, Pick 105: LB Baron Browning, Ohio State (Kennedale)

• Browning started multiple years at Ohio State after being rated one of the top linebacker prospects in the entire nation out of high school. Browning was selected by the Denver Broncos. 

Round 4, Pick 117: DL Bobby Brown, Texas A&M (Arlington Lamar)

• Brown ranked among the most physically gifted defensive line prospects in the NFL Draft and helped set the tone for Texas A&M's defense as a disruptive presence in the middle. Brown was selected by the Los Angeles Rams.

Round 4, Pick 119: RB Kene Nwangwu, Iowa State (Frisco Heritage)

• Nwangwu was a late riser up draft boards thanks to impressive testing numbers. He rushed for 339 yards and four TDs as a senior behind Breece Hall. Nwangwu was selected by the Minnesota Vikings.

Round 4, Pick 123: CB Zech McPhearson, Texas Tech

• McPhearson emerged as one of the top cornerbacks in the Big 12 after transferring from Penn State and later earned All-Texas College honors after intercepting four passes and defending two more in 2020. McPhearson was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles. 

Round 4, Pick 127: TE Kylen Granson, SMU (Austin Westlake)

• Granson ranked among the most underrated tight ends nationally after transferring from Rice to SMU. He posted 78 catches for 1,257 yards and 14 touchdowns in two seasons as a Mustang. Granson was selected by the Indianapolis Colts. 

Round 4, Pick 128: OT Dan Moore, Texas A&M (Beaumont West Brook)

• Moore contributed to one of the top offensive lines in all of ocllege football and cleared the way for the Aggies to put together a 9-1 season. Moore was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers. 

Round 4, Pick 129: WR Jaelon Darden, North Texas (Aldine Eisenhower)

• Darden ranked as the best wide receiver in the state of Texas, bar none. He leaves North Texas as the all-time leader in every receiver statistic and now snaps a 17-year drought of UNT players being selected in the NFL Draft. Darden is joining the Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers. 

Round 4, Pick 131: WR Tylan Wallace, Oklahoma State (Fort Worth South Hills)

• Wallace was a perennial contender for the Biletnikoff Award after emerging as one of the top receivers in the Big 12. He posted 3,434 yards and 26 touchdowns in just 37 games. Wallace was selected by the Baltimore Ravens. 

Round 4, Pick 140: LB Buddy Johnson, Texas A&M (Dallas Kimball)

• Johnson earned Texas College Defensive Player of the Year honors from DCTF after leading the Aggies with 95 tackles and 7.5 tackles for loss at the MIKE linebacker spot. Johnson was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers. 

Round 5, Pick 148: DE Ta'Quon Graham, Texas (Temple)

• The Central Texas product started 24 games in four seasons and earned All-Big 12 honorable mention after posted seven TFLs and two sacks. Graham was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons. 

Round 5, Pick 152: S Caden Sterns, Texas (Cibolo Steele)

• The San Antonio product came out guns blazing to start his career, earning Freshman All-America honors. Injuries kept him from achieving his full potential with the Longhorns, but he left with 173 tackles and five INTs in three seasons. Sterns was drafted by the Denver Broncos. 

Round 5, Pick 159: OT Brenden Jaimes, Nebraska (Lake Travis)

• Jaimes set a Nebraska record with 40 consecutive starts by an offensive lineman and earned All-Big Ten honorable mention his final three years on campus. Jaimes was drafted by the Los Angeles Chargers.

Round 5, Pick 170: LB Garret Wallow, TCU

• The hyper-productive linebacker from Louisiana posted 215 tackles and 27 tackles for loss in his final two seasons in Gary Patterson's 4-2-5 defense. He was originally recruited as a safety. Wallow was drafted by the in-state Houston Texans. 

Round 5, Pick 174: DL Earnest Brown IV, Northwestern (Denton Ryan)

• Brown posted a career high 32 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss and four passes defended in a breakout senior season in Evanston. Brown was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams. 

Round 6, Pick 188: DB Joshuah Bledsoe, Missouri (Spring Dekaney)

• Posted 131 tackles and 19 passes defended during a consistent career in the SEC at Missouri. Bledsoe was drafted by the New England Patriots. 

Round 6, Pick 197: OT William Sherman, Colorado (Allen)

• Sherman started at Allen High School from his sophomore season on and won a state championship next to Kyler Murray before starting for multiple years at Colorado. Sherman was drafted by the New England Patriots.

Round 6, Pick 203: WR Marquez Stevenson, Houston

• Stevenson ranked among the most electric receivers and returners in all of college football during a standout career at Houston. He earned a spot on the All-AAC team in 2018 and 2019 before suffering injuries in 2020. Stevenson was drafted by the Buffalo Bills. 

Round 6, Pick 207: DL Jonathan Marshall, Arkansas (Shepherd)

• Marshall was a former three-star prospect hailing from Shepherd, Texas, that managed to find a place in the vaunted SEC on the defensive line. Marshall was selected by the New York Jets. 

Round 6, Pick, 218: QB Sam Ehlinger, Texas (Austin Westlake)

• Ehlinger ranks as one of the most high-profile football players in the state of Texas over the past several seasons and is one of only a handful of people ever to grace the cover of Texas Football magazine twice. Ehlinger was selected by the Indianapolis Colts. 

Round 7, Pick 236: OG Jack Anderson, Texas Tech (Frisco)

• Anderson was a consistent star on the interior line after being one of the top offensive guard recruits in the country heading out of DFW. Anderson was drafted by the Buffalo Bills. 

Round 7, Pick 237: CB Kary Vincent Jr., LSU (Port Arthur Memorial)

• Vincent was a starter at the nickel for LSU's national championship team in 2019, posting 47 tackles and intercepting four passes. He opted out of the 2020 season to prepare for the NFL Draft. Vincent was selected by the Denver Broncos.

Round 7, Pick 240: DE William Bradley-King, Baylor

• Bradley-King transferred to Baylor in 2020 as a graduate transfer from Arkansas State and posted 31 tackles and 5.5 tackles for loss for the Bears. Bradley-King was drafted by the Washington Football Team. 

Round 7, Pick 259: LB Grant Stuard, Houston (Conroe Oak Ridge)

• Stuard earned all-conference honors at both safety and linebacker during his time at Houston and posted 61 tackles in his last year. Stuard was drafted as "Mr. Irrelevant" by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
