Kevin Brown, RB, Incarnate Word

UIW running back Kevin Brown had a great 2019 season leading the Cardinals in rushing, but what Brown accomplished on Saturday was quite impressive.

Brown gained 196 yards on 13 carries with a touchdown. The senior from Mount Pleasant, S.C., averaged an incredible 15.1 yards per carry while leading UIW to a 42-20 win over Lamar.

Brown’s 66-yard touchdown in the first quarter gave UIW a needed spark after Lamar had scored the game’s first touchdown 55 seconds earlier.

Ronnell Wilson, LB, Tarleton

Tarleton is not used to losing on its home turf, yet the Texans had a three-game losing streak at Memorial Stadium in Stephenville, Texas, dating back to 2019.

Ronnell Wilson and teammates were not going to allow the losing streak to continue another week. The senior linebacker from Abilene High School took out some frustrations on Mississippi College.

Wilson had 22 total tackles (nine solo), five tackles for loss, two sacks, and forced two fumbles to lead Tarleton to a 39-14 win over the Choctaws. One of Wilson’s forced fumbles was returned by Benjie Franklin 48-yards for a touchdown.

Kobe Robinson, WR, UTPB

One could imagine Kobe Robinson might not have the same home feeling with UTPB forced to move its home games from Ratliff Stadium to Midland Grande Stadium due to Ratliff being used as a CoVID-19 vaccine distribution site.

Robinson had no such issue, and the Odessa Permian High School product rewrote the Falcons record books in a 54-20 route over Lincoln (Mo.).

Robinson became the first player in program history to score three touchdowns in a game. He opened the game with a 93-yard kickoff return for a touchdown which is the first kickoff return for a touchdown in program history.

He was not done setting records, setting the program record for longest reception on the ensuing Falcons drive with an 85-yard touchdown reception.

Robinson set the touchdowns in a game record in the third quarter when quarterback Clayton Roberts found him for a 19-yard touchdown.

In total, Robinson had 256 all-purpose yards on Saturday, which of course, set the school record for most all-purpose yards in a single game.

Landon McKinney, QB, Howard Payne

Freshman quarterback Landon McKinney had a pretty decent first start accounting for 377 total yards in a close loss against Texas Lutheran.

The former Sabine High School standout was still in fine form after a three-week layoff accounting for 394 total yards leading Howard Payne to a 53-34 road win over Sul Ross State.

McKinney completed 19 of 30 passes for 372 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions and added 22 yards rushing on five carries.

The Yellow Jackets offense was superb all game totaling 677 yards in earning the first win for coach Jason Bachtel and spoiling the Lobos homecoming festivities.
