When East Texas Baptist scored a touchdown with 7:34 remaining in the fourth quarter to take a one-point lead over Mary Hardin-Baylor, one could assume Anthony Avila would feel the loss could belong on his shoulders.

The junior from Troy, Texas needed the offense to move the ball into a position to give him a chance at redemption after he had missed four field goals - from 51, 43, 29, 44 yards - and an extra-point attempt during the contest.

As Avila lined up for a 37-yard field goal attempt, his confidence was surely at least slightly shaken. But Avila has experienced a few pressure situations during his time kicking for the Cru.

It was not long ago when Avila was hurrying onto the field to nail a 43-yard field goal as time expired to send rival Hardin-Simmons home with a heartbreaking defeat.

Avila showed why he was selected as an All-American by three different publications in 2019 and nailed a 37-yard field goal to lift UMHB to a thrilling 30-28 win on the road.

The Cru defense, who allowed 354 yards passing in the game, was able to get a stop when they needed it the most, forcing an incomplete pass on the hail mary attempt as time expired to seal the win.
