Big changes are afoot in one of the Valley’s fastest growing ISDs with the retirement of long-time athletic director Richard Thompson in Sharyland ISD.

Sharyland made a surprise announcement on Feb. 22 as they promoted the head coaches at both high schools to athletic administration positions.

Sharyland head coach Ron Adame, who spent nine seasons leading the Rattlers and posted a 74-28 record, was named the new athletic director of Sharyland ISD. In Adame’s first three seasons at the helm he rolled up an incredible 35-4 record and three times led Sharyland to the regional semifinals.

Pioneer head coach Tom Lee was named Sharyland ISD assistant athletic director. Lee spent three years leading the Diamondbacks, posting a 26-7 mark and leading Pioneer to the regional semifinals in 2019 and a regional final appearance in 2020.

With the success of both programs and the promotion of head coaches, the smart money for both of these jobs will be internal promotions within the district.
