COLLEGE STATION - Celina quarteerback Cody Worrell hit a pair of late touchdown passes to Jose Romero and led the Bobcats to a 34-19 win over Rice Consolidated in the Division II championship game at the Fox Sports Southwest 7-on-7 Championship Friday at Kyle Field. Worrell threw two scoring passes to Justin Brumfield and a pair to Romero, who was name the tournament's Most Valuable Player.
It was Celina's third state 7-on-7 championship. The Bobcats also won the inaugural Division II (3A-2A-1A) title in 2007 when Worrell was a sophomore.
Celina's only first-half points came on Ryan Merritt's interception return for a touchdown. Rice Consolidated rallied into a 13-7 halftime lead with Myles Dumont hitting Mario Hull and Michael Scott for scores.
Lane Machac's interception return for a touchdown gave West a 35-28 win over Carthage in the Division II consolation final. Kelvin Anthony threw four touchdown passes in the Trojans' win.
