Lake Travis 2022 S Derrick Johnson (6-0, 195) continued to develop his skills in coverage and as a tackler throughout the course of the 2020 season.
"One thing I really wanted to do was improve on my plays on the ball," Johnson said. "I wanted to get more pass breakups this year. I have been able to do that."
Johnson hopes that his play will lead to more interest and offers from college coaches with a successful junior campaign under his belt.
To date, Illinois State is his lone offer, but more could be on the way as three programs show heavy interest.
"Colorado, Purdue and Northwestern are recruiting me the hardest, said Johnson, who also brings a lot to the table as a student.
"They contact me a lot and give me an overview of their seasons. The talks are going good, and the coaches are still evaluating me."
Coaches see Johnson as a high IQ playmaker.
Other schools that have been in contact include Duke, UCLA and Tulsa.
