Euless Trinity (10-1) vs Southlake Carroll (10-1)

11 a.m. Saturday at Arlington’s Globe Life Park

Two teams with plenty of playoff history against each other get the chance to lock horns on Saturday morning with the Region I title on the line in 6A-Division I.

Trinity has been an offensive machine since falling behind 35-14 in the second quarter to Midland Lee in the area playoffs. QB Valentino Foni sparked the Trojans’ offense in that one, throwing for over 300 yards.

Last week, it was all about running back Ollie Gordon, who had the game of a lifetime with 455 yards rushing on 49 carries and six touchdowns in a 49-45 game over Allen.

Southlake Carroll welcomed back Oho State junior QB commit junior Quinn Ewers to the lineup last week as the Dragons had to hold on down the stretch in a 30-26 win over Arlington Martin.

Ewers had a little bit of rust after sitting out for six weeks, but he made big plays in key moments throwing for 251 yards and three touchdowns. WR Landon Samson had 169 receiving yards for Carroll, while Minnesota signee Brady Boyd chipped in 78 receiving yards and a touchdown.

With Ewers not 100 percent and not able to run as much as usual, Carroll had a tough time getting the running game going as Martin’s defense zeroed in on sophomore RB Owen Allen without the threat of Ewers pulling the ball on the read.

This one has a chance for major fireworks; the key is which defense is going to step up. Despite Trinity’s overwhelming size and dominance in the trenches, Southlake Carroll seems to be able to figure things out against one dimensional teams; the Dragons defense finds a way to slow Gordon and that Trinity offense just enough to escape with a very close and hard fought win.

Stepp’s Pick: Southlake Carroll by 4
