2023 South Oak Cliff CB Malik Muhammad (6'0, 170) is a prospect who has continued to rise as this season has progressed.
Muhammad plays a physical brand of football despite his lean build at the corner position. He has done a great job of jamming and fighting through blocks on the perimeter to get to the ball, as witnessed in person on two separate occasions in 2020.
Against Dallas Kimball, Muhammad displaced the blocking receiver and then hustled to break down and form tackle SMU commit Brandon Epton Jr., showcasing the fact that he's making big plays against great competition.
"We did have a minor setback, but we came back harder and stronger," The setback he referred to being South Oak Cliff's Week 9 loss to Trinity Christian Cedar Hill.
Muhammad's high level of play has caught the eye of colleges, and his recruitment has started to pick up momentum.
SMU and Texas have both extended an offer to the South Oak Cliff product within the last month.
Texas Cornerbacks Coach Jay Valai has been the primary contact with the Texas staff and is forming a bond with the young defensive back.
"Some schools have been talking to recruiting coordinator, but they haven't been offering," Muhammad said. "I've been hearing from Oklahoma State and Texas. I talk to (Jay) Valai all the time. He said I'm a special kid. He likes all of the aspects of my game."
Muhammad still continues to show favor for Oklahoma State in his recruitment as he has a family connection to the Cowboys program.
His cousin AJ Green played defensive back for the Pokes from 2016-2019, and his cousin CB Jabbar Muhammad is currently on campus in Stillwater.
His point of contact in Stillwater is cornerback coach Tim Duffie.
"Coach Duffie is like family, literally. We've had one cornerback go there from my family and then another one. So he's really like family," the South Oak Cliff product stated.
Muhammad is in line to be the next great defensive back to come out of South Oak Cliff. A program that has already produced many throughout its storied history.
