Texas A&M football ranks No. 5 in the initial College Football Playoff rankings, which were revealed on Tuesday evening. The spot marks the best ranking Texas A&M has had since reaching No. 4 in 2016.
The Aggies are off to a blazing start to 2020, beginning 5-1 with a season-defining win over committee-ranked No. 6 Florida at Kyle Field on Oct. 10. The Aggies have win three straight games by double-digits.
Texas A&M's lone loss is against No. 1 Alabama. In addition to the Tide, Aggies and Gators, No. 9 Georgia rounds out the four SEC teams in the initial top 10. No. 2 Notre Dame, No. 3 Clemson and No. 4 Ohio State round out the group of teams slotted to the playoff if the season ended today.
Texas A&M is set to take the football field for the first time in three weeks on Saturday, as the Aggies play defending national champion LSU. The Aggies also have a game remaining against No. 22 Auburn remaining to build their resume.
In addition to Texas A&M, Texas ranks in the poll at No. 17. The Longhorns got off to a slow start, but have clawed their way back to 5-2. Texas could move up in the rankings after a game against No. 15 Iowa State on Friday.
