After what he called a rough start, Frisco Lone Star 2022 QB Garret Rangel (6-2, 175) and his teammates look to continue the winning ways they are used to.

“We started off the season 1-2. It was good to get those two games out of the way so that we know what we need to do now,” Rangel said. “Have to say that the first game felt weird for me. I look to get better with my teammates, and I will do whatever I need to help the team win.”
 
This seems to have been the attitude for Rangel since taking the reins of the team. He is focused on making sure Lone Star continues to win each week. 

To date, Rangel has secured more than 10 offers. Furthermore, major colleges are watching his development every week.
 
“I got an offer from Utah a few weeks ago, and that is my latest. I have 10 offers, but none really stand out at the moment,” Rangel said. 

“I’d say that the coaches who have kept in touch the most are Oklahoma State, Houston, Nevada, Northwestern and Utah. Right now, all the schools that have offered have potential.”
 
Rangel had plans to visit a number of these schools, but trips were canceled due to an extended dead period. He hopes that the spring will allow for him to get out and see the programs up close.

With that in mind, recruiting is still going on, and Rangel is catching attention from universities that have not yet offered. A few have caught his attention, and he is open to seeing where those current talks lead.
 
“Recently, I have been talking to NC State, Memphis and Penn State,” Rangel said. “I talked to (Penn State) coach (James) Franklin some lately. The talks are going well and he checks in on me. It seems to be going great and he wants to build a relationship with me. I hope to get an offer from them soon, so we will see how that goes.”
 
The top prospect said that coaches love how he handles himself on the field, his ability to read a defense, and his positive mindset.  And while he can get out and run when needed, he likes to stay in the pocket and deliver.

“My work ethic is what drives me to be better. My parents taught me that I have to work hard to succeed,” Rangel said. “I see them every day with their jobs, and that inspires me to go out and do the same.”

Rangel passed for over 4,500 yards and 50 touchdowns in a breakout 2019 season.
