Oklahoma and Texas are overwhelming favorites to meet in the Big 12 championship game in December, according to odds from the Westgate SuperBook.

The Sooners lead the way at 5/4 odds to win the Big 12 title, with Texas close behind at 8/5 odds. Oklahoma State is a sizable step behind in third at 7/1. Iowa State is at 16/1, and TCU and Baylor round out the middle with 25/1 and 30/1 odds respectively,

Texas Tech makes up a penultimate group at 100/1, tied with Kansas State and West Virginia. Kansas closes things out at 500/1 odds.

It’s important to note, odds are made to convince people to place bets, they’re not necessarily just a power ranking of teams. With that in mind, here’s what we think about the new odds, along with some odds if we did it ourselves.

Worst Bet: Texas

Texas has a real chance to win the Big 12 championship in 2020, there’s no question. Still, the Longhorns being that close to the Sooners and that far away from Oklahoma State is a mistake. The Cowboys are right there with the Longhorns, and a trip to the Big 12 championship will likely be on the line when the two teams play in Stillwater.

Best Bet: West Virginia

Look, West Virginia probably won’t win the Big 12 championship, but the pieces are there for them to make a giant leap. The defense was very good last season and the offense got monumentally better once Jarret Doege took the reins under center. At 100/1 odds? Yeah, sure, why not. Plus, the Big 12 title game the last three years has featured a team picked fourth or worst every year since the game came back in 2017.

My completely unscientific odds –

Oklahoma: 5/4

Texas: 4/1

  • Texas has a real shot at fighting for the conference championship, but expectations should still be far behind the Sooners.

Oklahoma State: 5/1

Iowa State: 12/1

Baylor: 25/1

  • The Bears can get back to the Big 12 championship game if our offensive projections pan out, but Baylor must get more experienced defensively.

TCU: 30/1

  • Expectations for the Horned Frogs could have been higher with an elite defense heading into 2020, but losing Max Duggan makes the offensive woes even more dire.

West Virginia: 50/1

Texas Tech: 75/1

  • Texas Tech will be a much improved team, if not one of the most improved teams in the Big 12. Don’t look now but the defense is filled with impact transfers. This wouldn’t be a bad bet.

Kansas State: 75/1

Kansas: 10,000/1

  • If you bet Kansas and win, you should become president.
