Texas A&M football announced its revised 2020 schedule on Monday. What was once a manageable start to the season now has some immediate measuring sticks.
The Aggies open the season with Vanderbilt on Sept. 26. After that, the Aggies travel to Alabama on Oct. 3 and host Florida in successive weeks. Both programs are projected to be top 10 teams.
Then, it's a date with old friend Mike Leach, who the Aggies played many times when he was the head coach at Texas Tech. After a bye, games against Arkansas, at South Carolina, at Tennessee and Ole Miss set up a challenging finish.
The Aggies play LSU and at Auburn in the final two weeks of the year for a chance to get into the SEC Championship Game on Dec. 19.
Previously, the Aggies were likely to be favored in their first 10 games. Since then, Texas A&M lost nonconference matchups against Colorado, North Texas, Fresno State and Abilene Christian. Instead, the Aggies have to play SEC East foes Florida and Tennessee at Neyland Stadium.
Texas A&M is fresh off an 8-5 finish to the 2019 season with a win in the Texas Bowl. Quarterback Kellen Mond is back as one of the few four-year starters in Aggies history.
